Fall/Winter and A Pinch of Salt
Dear A Pinch of Salt Fans,
I have been adjusting to motherhood, but rest assured that I have been exercising my cooking skills. I have taken Aidan into the kitchen and with his passion for all things new I have tested some new recipes, baked a few cakes and prepared my little guy some homemade baby food highlighting items from the farmer's market!
I have returned to work part-time for Wellness in the Schools were I provide training to cafeteria staff and have the privilege to teach preK-8th graders the importance of making healthy eating choices! I have also done a few cooking classes/demos at the Riverside Farmer's Market and completed two cooking series with Cooking Matters in Bridgeport, CT!
While I have not yet returned to providing at-home classes or group cooking classes just yet, A Pinch of Salt is back on track with private cooking parties in time for holiday team building events and private celebrations. Contact me should you wish to host your own cooking party of 8 or more. I will also be issuing gift certificates in time for the gift giving season! And as a reminder A Pinch of Salt is now providing services in parts of Connecticut!
As always I wish you and yours a wonderful Fall/Winter Season and I look forward to touch base with you. Any questions reach me at Raquel@apinchofsalt.com.
Happy Cooking!

Sweet Success!

As you may know yesterday was our Edible Gift Workshop and it was a sweet success! We made orange marmalade, jam filled thumbprint cookies, truffles, coconut macaroons and freshly popped popcorn with caramel and chocolate. Heavenly! Now the studens have some great ideas on gifts to prepare for coworkers, family/friends and for whoever has an appreciation for sweets.
If you missed this class, be sure to sign up for our newsletter so you can be a part of the various classes A Pinch of Salt is offering.

It's Sure Been a While....
Hey Readers,
Sorry for the delay in posting, but a lot has happened this summer: been giving more private cooking classes, at-home cooking parties for children & adults and hosting a few group classes in NYC. Also, a friend passed on a job opportunity she had heard about at the Westside Campaign Against Hunger, I applied and am now a full time chef/chef instructor there! Not to mention I am currently wrapping up another fabulous teen cooking class at the Sylvia Center.
So what does this all mean in terms of A Pinch of Salt? Nothing since I finish WSCAH early in the day so I still have evenings free and weekends available so keep your request for classes coming! In fact, may be hosting a group cooking class Saturday, Oct 8th around 6pm. Theme? Latin! Will post menu and more details early next week!
I promise to continue to share with you some of the great things that been going on, and explain WSCAH in more detail. Point is the summer has been good and I have tons to be thankful for, I hope yours has been equally as fruitful!
Speak next week, Happy Cooking!

Dessert Workshop for Kids of All Ages
Today A Pinch of Salt hosted a Dessert Workshop for 60 elementary school students. We offered a spread with 3 stations: Red Velvet and Vanilla Cupcakes; Yogurt Parfaits and Carmel Apples. Each station was equipped with various toppings ranging from rice krispies to fresh strawberries!
The children had a ball and are probably coming off their sugar high as we speak. I know I'm usually teaching children the importance of eating healthy, but we all need to indulge every now and then especially when the base of the dessert is yogurt, apples and cupcakes made from scratch with real butter, eggs, vanilla and buttermilk. It was a great time and it felt very rewarding seeing children of all ages (security guards and teachers alike) enjoying themselves and satisfying their sweet tooth!
Happy Eating!

Fuji TV Visits PS 53
Fuji TV requested an interview as they wanted to see what roles I am doing to work towards Mrs. Obama's Let's Move! initiative. This inquiry took place after they learned I attended the White House South Lawn Let's Move! launch last year and that ever since I have been working on projects geared to ending childhood obesity by 2015.
As you know, since October I have been working as a Wellness in the Schools Resident Cook helping prepare real, healthy food to children on a daily basis. It was strange that this particular morning meant being miked and filmed for the entire day, especially while trying to prepare wraps for 800 children at PS 53, but things went exceptionally well. It was an action packed day for sure, but with all the help of all the staff of PS 53 it proved successful! Check out the link that aired in Japan, no need to brush up on your Japanese, all interviews are in English.
